Digital signage, video wall technology has come down in price making it an attractive option for most facilities.
By Cindy Davis

It seems that each year the choices of digital signage displays for video walls grows exponentially — literally and figuratively. Since the beginning of panel production time, “the largest panel size in the world,” is boasted absolutely every year by at least two manufacturers. Digital Signage Expo 2013 in Las Vegas did not disappoint.

Last year the video wall buzz was around thinner bezels and multi-touch. At DSE 2013 the panels were bursting the walls with not only the individual panel size but also the number that can be tiled. 4K and 3D were teased last year but shown in full force. For most, the move to lower power consumption LED-lit LCD technology is happening as fast as older style CCFL LCDs can be phased-out. As these technologies advance the price-points are becoming more affordable for almost any facility to consider incorporating to deliver messaging with a major impact.

While I will be the first to point out that a video wall is only a pretty face if it doesn’t present compelling content — it is also true that if you have deep and rich content you should show it off with as few lines as possible, with the proper brightness and highest resolution. And if you can, go big!

Call me jaded but I don't see anything great about this article. Just a cut and paste of company PR. Where is the analysis and break-through info for those of us without a budget to go to all these shows? What I see again is the same three manufacturers glass being rebranded by companies touting superior products. But what really turns me off is a PR lie that says 'zero bezel' displays. Really??? What part of physics did they discover that produced this marvel of technology? The only technology capable of this now is projectors. In fact I just did a video wall using two rear projectors that was almost 20 feet across with zero bezels! Now that was impressive for a customer not wanting to see lines on his image.

For those too quick to slobber over the LCD versus Lamp life stats. I used the Projection Design FL35 with their WB module. Both of which worked great. Lamp life of about 100,000 hours puts it at about 11 YEARS of continuous use or 34 YEARS of normal use. And ZERO bezel for real.
